Sustainable sewing: Weave and sew a cashmere scarf

Saturday 30th November

09:30-12:30

Stitchcraft, Inverurie

I'm bringing a cashmere trunk show to Stitchcraft in Inverurie for the North East Open Studios weekend.  We'll be running a couple of workshops, including this one on weaving and sewing your own scarf.  The luxury cashmere comes a Scottish mill working at the top end of the market.  Everything you need will be provided (but bring your own pins in case you want to take away an item to finish at home).  You could make a scarf, cushion cover panels, a table runner and so on, but whatever it is, it’s going to feel amazing!

Sustainable sewing: Cashmere

small piece workshop

Saturday 30th November

13:30-16:30

Stitchcraft, Inverurie

As part of our cashmere trunk show, I'll bring cashmere pieces in a wide range of designs and colours.  These all come from a Scottish mill which produces luxury items for the top end of the market, using fleece from ethically farmed herds in Mongolia.  This is in collaboration with a social enterprise company established to encourage use of this luxury surplus by designers and craftworkers.   All profits from the company go back to the community, so this really is sustainable and ethical sewing.  We’ll fabricate panels  to make a bag, Christmas stocking or cushion cover.  Or you could go off piste and make something else!

Sustainable sewing: Fabricate a cashmere scarf

Sunday 1st December

09:30-12:30

The Sewing Shop, Fochabers

I'll bring lots of cashmere and show you how to design, weave and sew your own scarves or other items.  The cashmere comes a Scottish mill producing luxury items.  The production process leaves a surplus of "ribbons" in a wide range of colours and patterns.  This can be used to make fabric in a number of different ways - we’ll focus on weaving and stitching at this class, and everything you need will be provided (but bring your own pins in case you want to take away an item to finish at home).  You could make scarves, cushion cover panels, a table runner and so on, but whatever it is, it’s going to feel amazing!

Coat making weekend

25 & 26 January 2020

The Sew Studio

Dunfermline

Back by request, Victoria and I are repeating the coat-making weekend in January.  You can choose to make a Papercut Patterns Sapporo or a Closet Case patterns Claire coat.  We'll take care of you over the weekend with tea and coffee on demand and lunch included on both days.  The class is limited to 8 people with both Victoria and me on hand throughout to help with every aspect of making a coat, including tailoring tips.

Coats are one of the best things to make when you consider the RTW cost.  Plus they're really good fun to sew.  We had such lovely feedback from our last weekend (thank you!) and it's lovely to be asked to repeat this workshop.

Jeans making weekend

14 & 15 March 2020

The Sew Studio

Dunfermline

Learn how to make a pair of jeans that fit you perfectly in this weekend sewing workshop! The thought of sewing jeans can be very intimidating to many sewers so  Victoria Nutt and I will guide you through the process step by step over this two day course.

The ‘Ginger’ Jeans is an iconic pattern that has become a wardrobe staple for many sewists. View A features a comfortable low rise with narrow stovepipe legs. View B is sexy and high-waisted with skinny legs and a tummy-slimming pocket stay. Engineered to be as flattering as possible, Ginger Jeans feature subtly shaped back pockets to highlight the curve of the bum, slimming side seams and a higher back rise to prevent peekabooty. Designed for stretch denim, Ginger Jeans will hug you in all the right places.  They have full jeans styling including decorative topstitching, rivets etc.
