Stocking 013.jpg

Sunday 1st December

The Sewing Shop, Fochabers

Design and sew an item with small cashmere pieces.  There will be a wide range of colours and patterns, some with fringing and some without.  What you make is up to you - I'll be on hand to help with design and technique.  How about a cashmere Christmas Stocking, complete with fronged cuff and a hanging tab?  Or a tote bag, with an internal zipped pocket, or a cushion or hot water bottle cover?

Stocking - all materials provided.

Bag - I'll bring plain lining but if you want to use something special, please bring that with you.  I'll have zips and magnetic bags closures with me, plus cotton twill tape to strengthen the handle.

Cushion - please bring the cushion pad and a couple of buttons, at least 2cm diameter.

Hot water bottle cover - please bring a couple of buttons at least 2cm diameter.

Other ideas - if you want to discuss another idea in advance, please contact me

The cashmere pieces come from a Scottish mill which produces luxury items for the top end of the market, using fleece from ethically farmed herds in Mongolia.  This is in collaboration with a social enterprise company established to encourage use of this luxury surplus by designers and craftworkers.   All profits from the company go back to the community, so this really is sustainable and ethical sewing.

Choose your pieces of fabric and we’ll make panels to create your item.  The stockings will be fully lined, with a fringed cuff and a hanging tab, and be big enough for Santa to fill with some lovely presents.  And they’ll feel a-maz-ing!  There will be several size templates to choose from on the day if you want to make something to fit a particular gift.

If you choose to make a cushion please bring a pad up to 50cm square.  You can choose your cashmere pieces from the stash, and get creative with the colours, patterns, the stitching and any additions you want to make.

The pieces make great bags.  You can use the "slitter tape" to make the handle, which we'll strengthen with cotton twill tape.  You can line the bag and add an internal zip pocket, and I'll bring magentic bag closures for the top.
