Beginner’s dressmaking class - top and trousers

Starting Monday 29th April for 4 weeks

Mandors, Glasgow

We'll cover the full range of techniques you need to start sewing your own clothes at home.  Over the course we’ll make a shell top and a pair of linen trousers for the summer.  I’ll show you how to “read” a pattern and adjust it for your shape, tips on cutting out and transferring the markings, what to think about when you choose fabric and different fabric types.  We’ll go over interfacing and underlining, different seam finishes, how to sew a dart with a professional finish, how to face a neckline, plus the order of sewing.

Choose material and thread to make your garments from Mandors’ stock of beautiful fabrics, with 10% off for the duration of the course.  I’ll draft a top pattern to get you started, and there will be a supply of toile cotton to let you practice fitting and techniques before you cut into the good stuff.  We’ll work with a commercial trouser pattern so you can see how they work too, and can use those skills at home.

Included in the course: pattern for the top, toile cotton and all the tools you’ll need.

Additional costs – trouser pattern, fabric for top and trousers plus matching thread.

At Mandors, 134 Renfrew Street, Glasgow G3 8ST

Limited to 6 places.
